Preventing stretch marks is not always easy, but with careful observation and determination, it can be done to a large extent.
The simplest thing to suggest is, watch the rate of your weight increase. Ideally, there should be no weight increase if you are to prevent stretch marks forming. But in the case of pregnant women this cannot be avoided. But if you are simply eating too much, then don’t.
It’s the rapid increase of weight that causes skin to stretch too fast and be damaged. The attempts at repair results in the scar damage we call stretch marks. Preventing stretch marks, therefore, requires any weight increase to be slow so that the skin can easily cope with the growing demand on its elasticity.
For pregnant women, you should try to keep your skin as moisturized as possible. Drink plenty of water. You may have to visit the bathroom more regularly, but the effects on your skin makes it worth while. Use good moisturing creams and nourishing lotions – cocoa butter, wheat germ oil, emu oil, lanolin, vitamin E and vitamin A are all excellent sources to help improves the skin’s elasticity.
Also, eating foods high in silica and zinc as well as vitamins E and C will help the skin to stretch more efficiently without undue damage. Eating vegetables and fruit help too. Don’t forget those leafy greens that are great for any diet and certainly help here too.
Preventing stretch marks has a better long-term effect than trying to remove them later. They can become permanent scars that are unsightly and can cause stress for those who would like to stay beautiful for as long as possible. Just be sensible and think before eating unecessarily. Keep the skin well moisturized through the regular use of creams, lotions and good diet. You’ll be glad you did!
P.S Prevention is better than cure, they say, and they are right too.
