Preventing Stretch Marks During Pregnancy
Regardless of how slim and fit you may be, during pregnancy your stomach stretches like a balloon and is distended stretching and putting substantial pressure on dermal tissue.
As the skin expands more and more you are likely to feel that it is going to burst. But tissue on our bodies is amazingly elastic and resilient. It has the ability to stretch as much as it is required to and after delivery and childbirth it shrinks again. But you will still have to tackle the problem of preventing stretch marks during pregnancy.
What Causes Scarring
Basically, the middle layer of your skin is made up of collagen. When the skin on your stomach keeps stretching beyond breaking point the body keeps trying to compensate by releasing more collagen to the area. The extra collagen then forms scar-like tissue. The ability to develop scarring is often considered to be hereditary. So if your mother also had stretch marks you will need to take precautions.
Some of the steps you will need to take for preventing stretch marks during pregnancy will involve eating a well balanced, healthy and fat-free diet. Sudden weight gain during pregnancy often causes stretching. You must also drink lots of water to flush toxins out of your system and keep your skin well hydrated, soft and supple. Apply creams on your stomach containing Emu Oil, Vitamin E or Cocoa Butter. Massage in well. This will help increase blood flow to those areas and improve dermal elasticity and healthy cell regeneration.
The Post Delivery Situation
After you have done whatever is necessary for preventing stretch marks during pregnancy there are certain steps you can take even after your delivery. For one thing you must continue massaging cream on your stomach to keep the skin soft. You also need to exercise regularly in order to get back your muscle tone and prevent your stomach ftissue from sagging. The lower abdomen is affected the most during pregnancy.
A Cover up Job
It will take some people longer to get rid of their stretchmarks than others. It really depends on your skin type and skin tone. Regardless of the steps you take for preventing stretch marks during pregnancy, you will have a few here and there which will gradually fade over time. Until then do not wear midriff baring clothes!
