Warm water and honey will help sooth your sore throat and cough. You can also try lemon juice. The green tea and lemon are excellent antioxidants. Some people prefer chamomile tea.
In this same category we have herbs and vitamins. Vitamins C, D and E are all good immune system boosters. Taken in the correct dosages they can shorten the length of your cold. Zinc has been found to help with getting rid of colds. Among the herbs, Echinacea is high on the list. It can shorten the duration of your cold. Petroleum jelly placed under the nose or on the chest gives off vapors that sooth irritation.
The most aggressive level of intervention would be cough medicines and analgesics. There is a wide variety sold over the counter. You can choose the one that best suits your needs
