Brown spots on your skin are very difficult to get rid of permanently. Often these spots are the result of damage to the outer layer of skin, which causes an overproduction of melanin. The idea is to inhibit the enzymes that caused the damage in the first place, the darken areas are often referred to as sun-induced pigmentation or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
There are a variety of ways to diminish the appearance of these spots including over the counter cosmetic treatments, outpatient laser and phototherapy procedures, prescription strength topical medications, homeopathic cures, and natural herbal solutions.
One of the best options to get rid of brown spot involves using a bleaching cream that contains 2% hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is the active ingredient that lightens the darken areas; results are usually visible 4 weeks after use. An alternative to bleaching creams, is to treat the darken areas with any cosmetic preparation that has alpha hydroxy acids.
Bleaching cream is an over the counter treatment, usually found in the skin care section of the Health and Beauty aisle. If there is only a slight improvement in the appearance of the brown spots after 4 weeks, schedule an appointment with a trained Esthetician. They will usually recommend an advanced skin treatment with a higher concentration of hydroquinone, starting with a 3 to 4 percent solution, are in extreme cases, as much as 10 percent, which is a concentration that can only be obtained from an Esthetician or professional cosmetologist.
Alpha hydroxy acid gradually peels away the old damaged surface cells to reveal fresh, rejuvenated skin. Over the counter cosmetic products, contain a concentration between 1 to 10 percent, only a trained cosmetologist or Esthetician can apply alpha hydroxy acid products with a higher concentration, which is typically between 20 to 70 percent.
Some natural ways to get rid of brown spots is to rub the affected areas with olive oil, castor oil, lemon juice, or soymilk. Of course, with the natural remedies, the results may vary. The methods will not work for severe darkening of skin caused by ageing or acne scarring. There are various homemade solutions, which also include using a combination of the spice turmeric and limejuice. Homemade facial solutions work best on brown spots caused by an overexposure to the sun.
For severe cases, it is best to consult a dermatologist because there is usually an underlying reason why these dark spots appear such as ?the mask of pregnancy.? During pregnancy, excess hormones stimulate melanin, actually triggering an overproduction of pigment.
Hyperpigmentation or brown spots most often affect people with darker skin tones. For brown spots associated with the ageing process, using non-invasive laser therapy is the best course of treatment.
