It’s the big day you’ve been waiting for: the nerves have been building, and anticipation has been rising, but you’re excited it’s finally come. Waking up that morning you run into one big problem; a pimple has managed to find its way onto your face!
Just about everyone has had a pimple try to ruin their big plans by jarring our experience, so naturally we want to get rid of them as fast as possible. In this article, we look at the best ways to deal with pimples and leave your face looking clear and pristine.
1. Baking soda
Baking soda works as a natural exfoliate for your face, and helps to remove oils, dirt, and dead skin. The one thing to watch out for with baking soda is to not leave it on your skin too long. If you do, your skin might dry out a lot more than you had hoped for.
Start by making a thick paste, mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with a small amount of water. Apply that paste to the pimples on your face and leave it there for 2-3 minutes. After that time’s up, rinse it off with warm water. If your skin isn’t becoming too dry as a result, you can do this 2-3 times a day for the best results.
2. Cucumbers
As ridiculous as those cucumber face masks look, they actually serve a pretty good purpose. Cucumbers have natural cooling effects on the skin, and are high in vitamin C and potassium, which are both great for dealing with acne.
Start by cutting up a few cucumber slices and then place them in a glass of water. Let them soak in the water for about 2 hours – this will allow the nutrients from the cucumber to transfer into the water. After they’ve soaked, you can then drink the water to get the nutrients, or wash your face with the solution. Why not follow both ideas!
As another use for cucumbers, you can grind up an entire one and make your own facemask using the resulting paste. Take the cucumber paste and spread it over your face, leaving it on for 15 minutes. Leaving it on for any longer might cause more irritation than you started off with, so rinse it with warm water after the time is up.
3. Honey
Honey works as a natural antibiotic and speeds up the healing process while preventing later infections of acne. For the best results, you’re going to want to use as organic a solution as possible – avoid the ones that have lots of added sugar or preservatives.
Take the honey and apply it directly the pimple, and leave it there for about 30 minutes. After the time is up, rinse it off with warm water – you probably don’t want a sticky face anyways.
4. Ice
Pimples are really just a small area on the skin that has become inflamed, so treating it like a sore muscle actually solves the problem pretty well.
Ice works to reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation, which will get those cleaning nutrients moving towards the damaged areas faster. In top of that, ice also helps to tighten your skin pores and get rid of the dirt and oils that caused the pimple.
For this method, take a piece of ice and wrap it in a cloth and then hold it against the pimple for a few minutes. Alternatively, you can use an ice pack for this, but make sure it isn’t overly cold against your face.
5. Toothpaste
Believe it or not, the same thing that cleans your teeth can also clean your face. Toothpaste works by drying out the pimples and reducing their healing time.
Make sure to use a white-coloured toothpaste that has no added whitening solutions. Like honey, an organic solution is going to be your best option for this. Apply the toothpaste to the pimple as a spot treatment, then leave it on overnight and rinse off in the morning.
If you have sensitive skin, you might find toothpaste is too irritating to use. It should be seen as an emergency option to use if you don’t have anything else in the house to solve the problem. Preferably, you’d want to use benzoyl peroxide to deal with the pimples. If it’s giving you more problems, try one of the other options in this article.
6. Lemony fresh
Like cucumbers, lemons contain a whole bunch of vitamin C, which is a great antioxidant for fighting acne. For the best results, take some fresh lemons and squeeze out the juices, then spread it over the pimples just before heading to bed. Make sure to rinse it off in the morning with warm water, or else it might completely dry out your skin.
The citric acid in lemons can really dry out your skin for those who are more sensitive, so you might want to avoid lemons if your skin is usually pretty reactive.
7. Benzoyl peroxide
As an over-the-counter medication, benzoyl peroxide is one of the best treatments you can buy to deal with pimples quickly. This kind of cream works as an anti-bacterial that kills the germs causing pimples in the first place.
It also helps to peel away dead layers of skin, and leave you with a better looking complexion. One thing to look out for is the concentration the cream comes in. It can range from about 2.5-10% benzoyl peroxide, and using the higher concentrations can sometimes dry out your skin too much. Make sure to follow the directions on the bottle for the best results.
8. Hide it
If you’re in a jam and don’t have enough time to get rid of it naturally, there’s always make up for that. Using a simple cover-up, you can hide the pimple pretty well until you have enough time to get rid of it properly. Obviously this won’t solve the problem entirely, but it’s a good temporary fix for time-sensitive scenarios.
Whether it’s a big date, or a meeting with a company CEO, you don’t want a pimple to be the only thing they’re looking at. Try out some of these options in the article, and walk into that room feeling focused and confident. Good luck getting rid of your pimples as fast as possible!
