How To Get Rid of Hickies

Hickies can be an embarrassing side effect from getting a little too frisky. Neck kissing that gets to intense can end up as a bold purple hicky. Anyone who gets a hicky may be wondering how to get rid of hickies as fast as they can. Hickies look unprofessional and attract a lot of unwanted attention and comments. There are some methods of how to get rid of hickies though hickies mostly have to go away on their own.

As with any injury that results in a bruise the first step to reducing it's appearance is reducing the swelling in the area. A hicky is a type of bruise on the sensitive neck so to reduce the swelling ice should be applied. Ice can help to reduce the swelling of a hicky and if it swells less it will show up less and disappear faster. Applying ice regularly in the 48 hour period following the hicky is the best time to apply ice.

Another way of how to get rid of hickies is to bring more blood circulation to the area following the icing period. The ice will bring down the swelling but after that more blood should be brought to the area to promote faster healing. There are several ways to bring more blood circulation to the area and the first way is with heat. Applying a warm compress like a heating pad, a heated tea bag, or a warm cloth to the area will help bring more fresh blood to the hicky which will heal it faster.

Another way to bring more blood circulation to the hicky is to massage it. Some people massage the hicky with their fingers and others swear by another trick. Instead of massaging the hicky with the fingers some people rub a toothbrush over the area instead. The massaging motions of the bristles can help to improve circulation but it is important not to push too hard. Pushing too hard with the toothbrush can actually make the hicky worse so it is important to use light and gentle motions.

If all else fails makeup can work to cover up a hicky. Using a concealer or a makeup foundation with a yellow base will do the best job at concealing a purple hicky. Be wary not too use too much makeup and try to use a shade that exactly matches the skin tone.
